My question is, how are they going to sort through the American
penny coinage, when they melt down the Canadian coppers? Just curious.

I don't know the specifics but they may be using any or all of size, weight, magnetic properties, electrical conductance, etc. They're already separating out copper pennies from plated under the ARP. A better question may be, would they bother?

im pretty sure they wouldnt bother sorting out the american pennies....but maybe there are alot of them. I have a huge jar of them from roll searching and iv even got rolls that are all american pennies or only 1 or 2 canadian ones mixed it.

It's not going to be worth the time. Just melt them all down and make something else from them...

I've heard about that, too. Do you have a link to any articles related to the copper pennies being separated?

By the way, even if they melt down the American pennies, they would melt it here in Canada. Do the American laws apply here?

I don't know if / how the laws can be applied outside of the United States, but it is a crime to melt US Pennies and Nickles. It is also a crime to export them to another country with the intent to melt them. I don't know how the rule applies to coins already in circulation in Canada, or if the Canadian government has / will have anything to say about it.
