Hi all,

I recently started buying a little silver. I bought some Engelhard prospector 1 oz rounds that were all shiny and new. I put them in a hard plastic case similar to how those rolls from the Mint come. I've stored them at room temperature. I was moving them recently and decided to take a look when I noticed they had what looked like minor stains as if water had pooled and dried on them (it hasn't, just the best way I could describe). It's only been 6 to 8 months so I was a little bummed out. While I am primarily buying for the silver, I'd still like to keep them in the best shape possible. Is there a better way to store them without separating them out and individually encasing them?

Thanks,
Sel

Those sound like milk spots which have nothing to do with how you store them. That has to do with the plancets and how they were cleaned or dried, cant remember which part of the process.

But basically if the plancet has that flaw its going to happen, the Canadian mint has that happen to a lot of their Maples as well.

And welcome

From what you describe, that's what it sounds like too. I'm not sure if even sealing them up in capsules will even slow that down. It sucks if you want your bullion always looking shiny but like you said, silver is still silver. There are other brands that have the same problem here and there. Some (Like the maples) are known for it more than others. Luck of the draw really. By the way.

Oh well. As long as it's not from anything I'm doing wrong, I guess I won't worry myself about it.

Thanks very much for the replies, and the welcome! :)

I wrap mine in silver cloth and with a strip of 3M anti-tarnish paper put them in an air tight container. http://www.silverguard.com/c-6-paci...he-yard.aspx

Oh yeah also never touch them with your fingers, use cotton gloves if you need to handle them.

Never store near sewer gas.

I don't really care how I sotre bullion silver or gold, don't care if it tarnishes or gets spotty, just as long as it's safe from theft, and chemicals like acids or corrosive agents. Tupperware bins work for me. I don't collect bullion I only keep some as a hedge against inflation.
