Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has come across any 2009 10c coins in circulation?

Today we sorted out my daughters moneybox who was born in 2009 and we put alot of our change dated 2009 in it for her. As I was sorting it, it struck me that there was not one 2009 10c coin in it at all.
I checked McDonalds book and the mintage is at 53M, even with a lower mintage like that I thought by now that 2009 should have been picked up (the 5c coin is lower mintage too, but have them from 2009)

Would they be holding on to them at all for later realease, and if so how long would they normally hold them for?

Has anyone else found any 2009 10c pieces at all or is it just me being unlucky?

Hi Craig I think you have just been unlucky. I have found plenty of 2009 10c Coins in South Australia. It could be your area. Maybe not many have been released where you are.

G'day Craig

Not sure about the 53m mintage figures above. The RAM site has mintages at 25.235m for the 2009.
(All seem to be done in the 2009/10 year).

As a percentage, using the RAM's published mintages in the following page, plus around 104.95m for 2010 (from the annual reports), you should have just over 1.1% chance of finding one (not counting coins removed from the system, which would only increase your chances).

I had a bag of 100 on my desk so I checked.

Found 1.

Overall mintages:

I rarely get 10c coins to noodle as there isn't much to find. Last time I did a batch of 1000 coins, I found 27 x 2009's That's a 2.7% figure, though being a more recent coin they'd probably show up more than a total of all the mintages since 1966 that Unicorn calculated as 1.1% would suggest- so I think you've just been unlucky.....
