Just read this on yahoo, made me realize the US did (does) not have a monopoly on moving people when it suited them. Anyone here know about this or affected by this?

Definitely sad when any government (supposedly run by the people) hurt the people instead of helping the people.

Lake Eucumbene pronounced (Euc as in Eucalyptus) EM BEAN was created as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric scheme.

I will not get into the pros and cons and how the residents of Adaminiby were treated, but on a scale of national importance, the SMH scheme was vital. Some people will always lose in situations such as this.

See the attached http://www.snowyhydro.com.au/levelT...parentID=242

The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme is one of the most complex integrated water and hydro-electric power schemes in the world. The Scheme collects and stores the water that would normally flow east to the coast and diverts it through trans-mountain tunnels and power stations. The water is then released into the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers for irrigation.

The Scheme took 25 years to build and was completed in 1974. More than 100,000 people from over 30 countries came to work in the mountains to make true a vision of diverting water to farms to feed a growing nation and to build power stations to generate electricity for homes and industries.

Sixteen major dams, seven power stations (two underground), a pumping station, 145kms of inter-connected trans-mountain tunnels and 80kms of aqueducts were constructed. Even before the Scheme was completed, it was named as one of the civil engineering wonders of the modern world.

Thanks for the link, it is really interesting. Something to add to my list to see before I die. My list keeps getting longer & longer, crossing off things is slower and slower. One day when I'm rich (from collecting coins)lol, I'll see all the things I want to see.

I haven't been up there in years, and only once in the snowy season (its too cold). It is truly spectacular country and well worth a week or two simply travelling around the country towns in the region.

The movie "The Man from Snowy River" based on 'Banjo' Paterson's famous poem was filmed up there. Well worth reading and seeing (in that order)

The story continues...
In the Australian state of Queensland government is about to build a new dam, and flood a very large area near Gympie. The people who live there object because they believe the idea is daft...to build a dam in a drought area... but the politicians are determined to be seen as doing something and kicking people off their land sure looks like they are doing something.

The government should build a desal plant.

From what I've been reading, most everywhere is a drought right now. Of course they are blaming global warming, and who's to blame for global warming?!! There are a bunch of ethanol plants proposed for the midwest USA. Made the corn price go thru the roof. So my pigs are gone till prices come back down so I can afford to feed the animals. Might be awhile, wet spring, not enough corn planted in this area for this time of year.

Get a metal detector and start to dig. I see $ sign!

I remember from an old news, stating that when the water level of Lake Powell in Utah started to drop, someone with metal detector found a wedding ring and was able to research the original couple after more than 50 years. The old couple was very happy to have their wedding ring back.
