I have been slowly going through a collection of coins that I inherited years ago and trying to get them all sorted and organized in some way shape or form. I have a bag of about 50 or 60 Lincoln cents. I was going through them and sorting them by year and mint mark and came upon this coin. The best way I can describe it is that it has lumps of copper all over the coin. Here are some pictures.
Is this something that happens often? I have an awful pile of coins here, some errors, but this one really seemed to stand out from the others by a lot. Thanks for any information you can give me.
This is not an error. It is damaged. It looks like a cent that was part of a group of coins being used as solder. This one survived being used, but had some of what dripped off and splattered on it.
