I was looking over my steelies, and I noticed the date on this one appears "smudged" even though the rim and rest of the coin are in pretty good shape. (Photograph shot through 2x2 holder plastic). Another thing that seems odd are the sort of radial lines that appear to emanate from Lincoln and traverse towards the edge of the coin. Do any of you more seasoned collectors think this is cause by die greasing? As always, my thanks for your input.

What's that on Lincoln's face? Its hard to tell from pictures but it almost looks like paint or metal chipping away. Makes me wonder if it is plated? If not, its a very attractive coin other than the face.

I know it isn't plated. My father-in-law pulled these from circulation when he was young. I have several, a couple in better condition and many in worse condition. The scratches on the shoulder are visible on the coin surface, but those grey splotches on his face aren't visible on the coin, I think it may be the plastic reflecting or interacting with the camera flash.

Here's another of the better examples without a smudged date.

The vertical lines flowing out are die flow. The date is probably a Grease Filled Die.
