Hi, Folks-

I'm a visitor over here from the classic US side.

I'm updating the moderns section of my type set, and trying to include CAC-approved coins whenever possible.

I had no trouble finding a nice, CAC'd Eisenhower dollar, but when I looked for a bicentennial example, no luck anywhere. The CAC pop report shows the numbers of 1976 dollars approved was comparable to other years (although, admittedly, the mintage was much higher).

Any clue why I can't find one?

Even better, any suggestions for a modern coin dealer who might help me?

You bet. Contact James Sego at the link below. He is the top Ike dollar dealer in the country. I have done business with James in the past and he's a good guy with only quality coins.

Take a look at some of his Deep Cameo Ikes. He has some awesome pieces.

Well, you can submit your own to CAC.

I have a CAC 76-P Type 1 in 65, and a 76-P and D type 2 in 66.

The 76-P Type 1 in 65 is hard to get cac'ed. Likewise, the 76-D type 1 in 66 is tough. I think they go for about $400 for run of the mill and up to $1,500 for nicely toned. My advice is to learn how to buy nice coins and get them stickered yourself.

Thanks, BH1964. I will contact James Sego. He sure has great Ikes on his website - though no CAC'd 76's!

cc99999, I agree, submitting my own would be ideal. Unfortunately, there are no CAC member dealers in my state, and of course, individual memberships are not available. Any suggestions about a remote dealer to work through?

I have to admit, I am happy when I can pay a bit more for an already-CAC'd coin, where someone else already has done the work of submitting, paid the fee, and taken the risk of it coming back un-beaned. On the other hand, I only want to pay a *bit* more. ;-)

And that presumes, of course, that I like the coin enough to buy it in the first place!

I can submit coins to CAC for you. If you'd like to try that route, go ahead and send me a message.

Oh, great. Yet another stop for my Drool Tour. This guy has some ludicrous coins.

remember now, CAC doesn't mean the coin is A material. It only means its A and B material. Most of the CAC'ed coins you will find on the market will be the B coins. Better to find your own. James Sego's A material typically isn't for sale unless he really knows you - and then it's moon money.
