To Lostword: Collection of all Kookaburra's will be extremely nice "super-set". I've chosen to go with Koalas, as the series is started recently, and it possible to find every issue year. But if you planning to start them - better hurry with 2007 (initial year) and 2008 - they become more and more expensive.

why would you collect any coins from a mint that restrikes previous coins? Its the route that I worry the RCM might copy just to create more profits. This is one of the most serious problem for a reputeable mainstream mint.

Does anyone know when this coin is supposed to be released?

Quote:Most of the Kookaburra (especially the older ones) are quite easy to find and the price is actually very reasonable, thanks to Perth Mint retriking é reminting of the older kook. This dealer carry pretty much every one from 1992 to 2007, at around 42$ each. http://www.coincommunity.com/go/_to.asp?target=http://www.preciousmetalhouse.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=kookaburra I am close to complete my collection :) Thanks. I know about the restriking but... I do like these Kooks. Will think about it. The thing about PMH is they are so slow in shipping

Restriking previous dates, exact duplicate of the of the original? Wow. I have bought one Perth coin, it will be my last.

The final mintages for the Kooks have been declared though; i.e. no more reminting. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the differences between a coin struck in e.g. 1995 and 2013. I'd prefer the 2013 because it'll be "fresher" with less oxidation or anyone having stored it in a smoky room and having potentially big scratches on the capsule... I for myself managed to accummulate two complete collections and for roughly $1k each (24 coins being issued thus far) last year. Most can be had for little over spot, but the first from 1990 and this one... ..., my favorite so far (albeit I really like the 2013 issue), are expensive.

But guys, actually re-strikes - probably they are only the bullion coins. As a series - they still very collectible, although low numismatic value. Mintage? Does it really matter for standard bullion coin if it 100.000 or 150.000 (as example)?

sure it matters, just for example bullion wolves are selling for around 70.00 what if the RCM restrikes the wolves this year when they announced a mintage of 1000000. how would you feel if you paid 70.00 for the orginals.

Quote: how would you feel if you paid 70.00 for the orginals You paid $70.00 on basis of rarity / availability on that specific moment. Yes, there is a loss of money. But the same way: There are 2 listings for same coin on ebay that ends close one from other. The first will be ended with the winning bid of $150, and the second - $120. The situation, when only 2 buyers ready to pay more then $100. Did the first buyer lose $30? Not really, he just wished to pay more.

Not exactly the same, but again, in my opinion they re-strike not expensive bullion coin, without high numismatic significance.
Which year they put - 2013? In this case it is not duplication, but the different coin.
So, I know that in general this is not pleasant fact. But not the issue at all.
Where the problem exactly: That we overpaid by paying for rare item and then suddenly it became not rare? So let's say you have the "original" and someone else "replica". Or did the coin loose it's attraction due to re-strike and changed mintage?
