if you allow or support mints that do restrikes, it just destroy the idea of collecting. anything popular just restrike more coins, thats why they have bullion bars

Completely agree.
But what to do, I like the billions (some of them) for their "free" thematics and some of them for annual changing design.
Also, separate bullion and NCLT collection. But keep the Proof version and "special versions" as NCLT.

To my understanding, the Perth Mint announced the mintage number but some of those year, the number sold were a lot less. So, they decided to "release" the remainder unsold coin (either from their stockpile or striking them using the original die/master die). In another word, they are not increasing the final "intended" mintage (however, what they are doing is increasing the "sold" mintage to match the "intended" mintage). So, for those paying more for the certain year (because of the lower sold mintage), they are loosing money as more coins of those certain year are made available. Anyone recalling the recent release of the RCM/RCB's gold $5/$10 coins? What if the China Mint re-strike those earlier Panda coins..... Sorry for opening a can of worm.

@Silveroid No, they have not re-minted the "design" only with 2013 date... that would be correct. They actually striked, in 2013, some bullion with the 1992 (and many others) date. So there is NO mean to differentiate the two. Even worse, the "new" ones are much better as they are new! If they had restriked them with the actual date, or a very small distinctive mark to differentiate, no problem at all. It's just I (and many others) would never think that an official Mint could even legally strike coins with a date different from the current date (exception for a transition period between each year, like striking 2013 coins in november 2012 or similar). It's obvious that lower mintage is more expensive to have... every collector need that year, but if there's more collectors than coins... this is how it works. I understand that the announced mintage was 1,000,000... but restriking them 20 years later is just a very bad idea!! @SA4H The 100-years old Canada gold coins are a little bit different... I never thought about it the way you present it, but it's true that a lot of "new" coins comes into the market. But to the RCM defense, actually they haven't "re-striked" them. They were made 100 years ago and never reproduced. But I get the point that as a collector point-of-view, there is no difference in re-strike and sleeping in the vault for 100 years. The collector who paid a lot for one the day before the announcement is screwed either way!

Interesting discussion. I so far only have a few kooks. I brought them because they are nice and in their own capsule. My originaly intetion is to buy one or 2 of each year. I looks at the design of previous year of kooks and.. ah well will think a bit more to see if I want to continue collecting it or not.
Edit: Is the reminting only for the kooks and lunar? But then again, if they do it once, they will probably do it again later

Sorry for the Kooks re-strike, Lostwords, but if you like the design - buy them all and enjoy you series.
Against mine point of view regarding re striking bullion coins, I prefer that they will not do it with Koala series. Year 2008 has the lowest mintage of them, they expensive and what is more problematic - hard to get them. Finally got it slabbed with "Early release - First 8.000" so destroyed it in order to put the coin to the normal capsule.

That's what I am doing too. I buy them because I like their design. Am I supporting restriking or reminting? NO. Each time people see my display of Kook collection, I would tell them how someone like me (new to collecting coins) managed to acquire those old kook, and the story about Perth Mint reminting them. A good conversation starter, but not a good story for PM. Besides, I think we can all see the damage Perth Mint have done to themselves, if you take a closer look at their NCLT releases in the past 6 months, even they played the low mintage game, their coins hardly sold out. Very few sellers put up PM's coin for auction now because there is no profit after the ebay fee. I am really looking forward to seeing PM's annual report for the last year, and see if there will be any management change.

On side notes... Did any of you ended up ordering from Precious metal? Their web site been in maintenance mode since last week and apparently, their facebook, twitter and linkin accounts also disappear. I almost ordered the kooks from them last week but didn't.

It's a good thing you didn't, I have heard some scary stuff about PMH in the last few weeks. I don't want to start rumors but I don't expect PMH to open their website again....unless it's under a different company name. Dave from PMH is signed up for a table at Torex this weekend, it will be interesting to see if he shows up.
