2003 Suffrage: 2 Varieties
Large reverse and Small reverse. There are several ways to tell them apart, but I find what I show in the following images are the easiest.

The two varieties side by side, large rev left, small rev right
Australian-$1-Varieties

Shows the difference in the length of the left prong of the trident
Australian-$1-Varieties

Shows the two text types and the difference where the trident handle crosses between the L and A, note the difference in gaps between letters.
Australian-$1-Varieties

Generally, the text on the large Rev is thick and on the small rev it is thin.

Very useful pointers for distinguishing these Nancy (and great photos too). Now I just need to find mine and see what I have!

Which version seems to be the more common?

It seems to be about 50 x 50, so neither variety is scarce.

There is a noticeable difference in the gap under the images and the border. Should be easy to find, even with worn coins.

thankyou Nancy for this concise, but informative, and well-illustrated article.
Until recently, I was often picking up near-Unc examples of the suffrage dollar here in Darwin.
I'll have to see how many of which variety I have.

Very nice photo documentation for these two varieties. I see the lettering spacing from the edge is different too.
If I were to guess, those two are different enough to require too different hubs. That would be a lot of duplicate work.

Does anyone know which variety is more numerous? or have any stats? That would be really helpful.

Sorry can't help you much more blackmamba, but I didn't know about the variety until this discussion.
