But again, why ? It is not like they don't get paid if it is not a MS 70 .They still get their money and it makes their MS70s all the more rare and more coveted

I was talking about the motivation of PCGS to lower their standards as you have suggested. They still get paid whether it is 70, 69, or details. And by giving less 70s they are now considered the premier grading service.

Just the topic I need.....Yesterday I fell in love with a coin at my LCS...It's a first release PCGS PR-69 reverse proof 2012...It's the only slabbed eagle I own.....It's beautiful!! Paid $100 for it ...Love it ,but not sure it was a wise purch ASE

Great choice for your only slabbed ASE....2nd lowest mintage reverse proof..The RP's are great coins and will always demand a premium over their burnished counterparts. A PF69 group of the RP's from 2006, 2011, 2012 (and soon 2013) is possible without breaking your budget...and most of them are indistinguishable from their PF70 brothers (or would they be sisters?)

(and..at $100 you got a nice bargain)

A dealer makes next to nothing on MS69 graded bullion coins so it WAS a waste of time and resources

Thats only true if there are 70s. If their isn't a 70 the 69 becomes the new 70.

If the standards have changed that much just resubmit the earlier coins and see how many come out MS70's.

Exactly, if that were the case we would be seeing massive resubmissions. Its really not far fetched at all to assume the mint made upgrades over the last 20+ years.
