I've been screaming through rolls of halves trying to put together a set of Kennedy's. Well, the obvious silvers are hard to find, BUT out of all the rolls I've looked through, I've yet to find even a low quality coin from either mint in both 87 and 92? What gives? I know the 87s were the lowest minted date; were these even circulated or only found in sets? The coin facts page doesn't say they weren't circulated so I can't figure it out? Thanks so much,

Thomas

The RedBook states that the 87 was not issued for circulation. Only for the sets. Nothing special listed for the 92. 92 has mintages of 17 million for each mint, so they're definitely out there.

The 70-D and the 87 -P&D were not put out in circulation those were only found in mint sets. There are those who have found those three coin in circulating from roll searching however it is hard, as for the 1992 most of the business strikes for that year were not that good so must collectors pull the best out when they find them.

Other than the previously mentioned 70-D and 87-P-D, all Kennedy half dollars since 2002 have also not been minted for circulation. It was in 2002 that the Mint stopped making these coins for circulation. It is my understanding that they have quite a few Kennedy half dollars (many millions) from the late 90s and 2000/2001 still in their vaults.
