I hide all my rare coins in my mattress. A bit lumpy, but I know they're safe.

Made me laugh. At one bank I go to they actually have a small cart in the vault for people like you and me. When I take my box to that little room, I have to use the cart. A bank person once offered to help but only once. They too said just use the cart.

I still trust the bank over home storage due to statistics on bank robberies vs home invasions. What happened at that bank is highly uncommon. The key is to diversify your storage locations.
