So we're renovating our basement right now, and the place is a mess. I was sorting my hole coin collection, placing them in cardboard holders and scanning them. I scanned my world coins when my sons started crying so I left them in the scanner and my Canadian coins were left on my desk. Next day my mother in law tidied up a bit and when I got home from work, the bag I had my coins in was gone. Can't find it anywhere and no one knows if they moved it. Now, my collection isn't that extensive yet, but I did lose a few nice ones. Here's the highlights: 1945 victory nickel 1927 George V nickel1928 George V dime 1967 quarter Almost every colorized quarter in circulation including the rarer Cindy Klaussen colored version 1967 nickel "the bunny nickel" I call it A few commemorative loonies and toonies Quite a few George VI nickels and pennies Luckily, I hoarded colored quarters for a while so I have all except the Klaussen, but the George V coins, victory nickel and centennials were pretty rare spare change finds. Now I'm just hoping it ended up in my crawl space somewhere and will be recovered once we clear it out and put everything back in the family room!

Hoping it was your "hole" collection, rather than "whole". Bummer, either way, good luck!

Hopefully there is a rainbow at the end of this tunnel. It reminds me of an expression my boss uses when describing good news/bad news situations: "It's like watching your mother-in-law drive off the cliff in your new Mercedes."

Yeah, I'm wondering if they grew legs too. I'd ask the MIL, nicely. "Hey Ma--I had this bag and I'm a bit worried. Did you move it when you were cleaning, and if you did do you happen to remember where you put it so I can make sure it doesn't get lost again?"
It's possible it grew legs. It's also possible your MIL moved it without knowing what was in it, or--unlikely, but possible--that your MIL looked in the bag, saw the coins, and went "with all these renovators about it doesn't seem wise to leave these out in the open, dear" and toted them off to protect them for you. That's the kind of thing my mom would do.

My mother once helped me by pulling some weeds in my garden and my entire wild flower garden ended up in the trash. I bluntly told her not to help me weed anything again.
I also lost through her "help" 6 1909svdb pennies. Only back then they were not worth as much as they are today. But back in the early 60's they were in real good shape. I have since never been able to replace them. I also "lost" my collection of Classic Illustrated comic book, my Superman and Batman comics and numerous other and assundry items. I know what "helpers" can do with all the best intentions.
Lord save me from well intentioned helpers in the future. Just let me wallow.
edit for spelling

So I was right!! My wife was storing my son's outgrown clothes and as she opened the box, there were my coins! They must's fallen in there as I'm sure no one could mistake them for "BOYS 3-6 MONTHS" clothes lol.
