Found a nice silver edge in a roll of quarters. I figured immediately that it was a Canadian, as this is my luck, but much to my confusion it is a Guam quarter. The thing is, I have heard the silver ones have an "S" mint mark, but this one has a "P". It looks pretty solid silver on the edge. Everyone I have have shown it to hasn't seen any coloring that would suggest clad status. The only thing I could think was if someone painted the edge silver, but I have nicked it and there is no copper color in it the edge where I nicked it. I'm pretty sure it's clad, but at this point my OCD won't let me put this away until I know about the coin. Does anyone have any ideas about this bad boy? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Fuzzy317: No, I don't have a scale. I was thinking of taking it to the "I Buy Silver" guy here in town to see if he knows anything about it. Maybe he can weigh it for me.

It's clad , I have seen coins where the copper-nickel outer core has overlapped the inner core on the edges. Unless a silver planchet got sent to the Phila mint by mistake, which is unlikely.

denco7: That's pretty much what I figured, but I didn't want to have to hack the thing in half to prove it. It IS money, after all...

Also check the tissue test. Does it ring like a silver coin?

Goldrush,

I got a nice, cheap scale at Harbor Freight Tools. Works perfect, was like $13 or something.

Most likely one of the silver or platinum plated SQ that were sold on HSN and similar vendors. The precious metal plating on these after market jobs are very minimal.

FFD, nice find on the Spanish silver. Can't wait till it gets warm. My brother in law has like a 28 acre property, that had an indian settlement they think, and he says I can search it. But I hope he doesn't change his mind.
