I have asked myself lately "What coin would you keep no matter what?" I know we all have a wide variety of interests but what coin would you absolutely refuse to part with? And if you can explain, why? I will have to give this a little more thought and will throw in my Two Cents worth later as I, at this time, am still not sure? I can say I have a set of Bicentennial coins (Ike dollar, Kennedy half and the Washington quarter I gave my Grandfather in 1976 in an effort to get him interested in collecting, which didn't work, but they were returned upon his passing. Those will stay with the family forever! As for a coin I actually purchased for me, well still thinking on this one!

Ah now there's a question... one I don't think I've got an answer for either!

1864 Two Cent coin. My first "collector" coin given to me by my history teacher. Sparked my numismatic career. Still shocks some of my customers to see this worn coin proudly displayed among the rarities that my firm offers.

You mean people actually sell coins?!?!?!? [:p]
Actually, I was faced with this kind of situation only last year do to a certain coin-related legal entanglement (enough said about that by me...). When push came to shove, it was the expensive and easiest to liquidate stuff that went first.
I did section off three parts of my collection (the buffalos, the lincolns and the stuff I got from my Grandfather) that were not going no matter what. Everything else went in the 'Sell As I Have To' pile.

Sell a coin? What's that mean? I don't know where I would start if I had to sell off part of my collection. I'm afraid all of them would end up in the "Won't sell no matter what" pile. Maybe my junk silver box first, but I'm pretty attached to that too! Rachel [:p]

I have actually pared down my CC Morgan collection, to raise capital for other coins. Hated to do it, but they were extras and not part of the core 13 coins. The one coin I could never part with is a 1922 Peace dollar that my dad gave to me and my sister when we were kids. He actually gave us 7 Peace dollars and she lost 6 of them in Sears about 35 years ago. The 22 was the only one she didn't lose. I can imagine the other 6 were 28-P's and 21 high reliefs.

Those sentimental value coins are the ones to keep, that is for sure! Dan, what was she doing with 6 Peace dollars at Sears?

Stujoe, My buffalo's are very high on my list and my 3-legged 37D is here to stay. I won't sell it but I know there are other coins just as important to me if I can just remember? May have to get the old boys out and see if memory will serve me well!

I love all my coins equally but I love my buffalos more equally than the rest.

My complete Lincoln collection (all date/MM combinations 1909-present, only missing 2005-S and 1922 Plain). The vast majority of the collection was my late uncle's or was personally collected from circulation.

I have a tough time parting with "any" old coppers. If it's for an upgrade it's almost tolerable! Mike [:0]

The Gothic is still my favorite, single coin but the buffs severely outnumber her. There is strength in numbers.

Hmm well that's a way of looking at it!
You know I've been trying to think for a while now where that gothic florin actually came from, i'll have to dig around in the reciept box. I wonder if it was Andy Bruce?

Ha found the reciept for it, I paid £95 for that florin of yours back on 17th Jan 2004 and it was purchased from Chris Perkins of predecimal forum.
Which means one of two things;
1) I didn't have to coin very long, because I sold it you last summer sometime and
2) You must have paid about that in $'s, I think I charged you pretty much what i'd paid for it, rounded up to the nearest 5 or 10. Firstly to make it easier in payment and to cover a little on the postage from this end.

It must have been about $175 based on £95/0.55 as it was then.
Which is a good price because they book about £120 for an EF specimen these days.
