Of these four 1 oz gold coins, list your preference in order from 1 through 4 and your reasons why one in particular is your favorite.
1 oz. Gold Eagle
American Buffalo Gold Coin
South Africa 1 oz. Gold Krugerrand
Canada 1 oz. Gold Maple

Gold Eagle Maple Buffalo Krug
Depending on your area, Maples have an advantage as a lot of asians like 9999 marked on their coin

Krugerrand. Lowest premium and well-recognized throughout the world.

The Eagle and the Buffalo may have it for aesthetics and the Maple is the only "four 9's" entry, but the Krugerrand has to be the overall winner because it was the first modern gold bullion coin, it's been around the longest and it definitely has been #1 in world-wide recognition for decades.

Love this thread but I;ll only be able to answer part of it lol
I hope proof coins were included in this thread btw lol
1- Proof Gold American Eagle 1 oz- lower mintage
2- Proof Gold American Buff- lower mintage.. again
I would love to buy a Krugerrand but It has to be proof, which is a hard thing to do especially wanting current years. I know it sounds picky but that's how I Am, I want my coins to be current, and proof. (The one exception I have made is the Somalian elephant coins) The same with the gold maple, I would be interested but I haven't seen current proof gold maples.
The next runner up to those two, is.... I would buy a gold Panda because of lower mintage and its proof like finish. Tho again, I would prefer a gold panda proof over the regular edition.

Maple for me, although all are very nice coins. Krugs used to have the lowest premium but Maples are about $10-12 lower now, at least at Goldmart.
Cheapest gold coin per oz. of gold are the Mexican 50 peso coins at spot $15. They are 20% higher in gold content than the 1-oz. coins so are around $2035 each. On a per oz. of gold basis, they cost less than the 1-oz. bars.

1. American Gold Buffalo - .999 Pure 24k (My #1 Favorite) 2. Canadian Maple - again, .999 Pure 24k 3. American Gold Eagle - 22k and mixed with other metals - but makes up for it in weight. 4. Krugerrand - Same 22k - but has been around forever.
I own all of the above. However, if I were starting out and spending this much on 1 oz of Gold. I would want my first one to be in its purest form and that is why I bought a Pamp Suisse 1 oz.
Good luck!

Maples all the way not just because I'm Canadian either. Gold really does shine different when it's free of copper. And aesthetically a younger queen and one of the best designed piece of greenery on a coin is much nicer than a grouchy Indian head and wrinkled cattle.
