So let me get this straight. The government will actually send you back some of your tax money that they have taken from your pay check all year long? How do I get in on that deal? I have to send in more money every time I file.

I don't let the gov't hold my money interest-free for a year. I'll be paying, not receiving.

WOW do I agree with you there. A long time ago someone pointed out to me that for every $365 the government holds of your money, without interest, it's like handing someone a dollar a day of yours. Then allowing you to get it back someday, maybe.
Hopefully I'll only have to pay enough to still be able to afford gas to go to all the coin shows.

I will be secretly buying a 2011 5 coin Silver Eagle Anniversary set! (Don't tell the wife)!

my wife just got after me about my collection so I have to hang low for awhile. I was doing well for year or so with the "it's part of my retirement and I'm not really wasting our money" line but she's on to me now.

Ummm, for every $1000 of yours the govt holds and then refunds, you're looking at about less than $2 of opportunity cost compared to 0,25% money market rates...hardly a financial move from which you can't recover. And yes, I realize everybody reading this somehow manages 25%+ annual returns so the numbers are different for you Tax refunds are not a universally wrong move, depending on one's other financial behavior.

Anyway, part of any refund I get will go to my fund for a CC Half Eagle purchase someday.

When I tell people at work that I typically owe taxes when I file my returns, they give me strange looks. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does this.

I pay in all year long, but I'll have to send in a grand or more when I file. I'm losing one of the kids as a deduction. It'll hurt my ability to buy another cc Morgan and a couple of commemoratives for my collection.

I got my Federal refund after 9 days.

I e-filed on 2/3 and it is deposited for posting 2/12.
I have already spent the money (plus more) for the 1893-S Morgan dollar to finish the set.

I'm on a 1098mis due to being an independent contractor, so I get to send in more money as well. As for coins I don't know when I will be buying some for my personal collection, but when I do it will be finishing my Franklin half set.

I think thats everything it was a hard choice between that and a computer with all attachments and a new tv. But I started looking at coins and thinking about how I need to organize my hoard and the choice became easy. I made my purchases through ebay, Amazon, wizard coin supply, and CCF.
