I wanted to know if this is PMD because someone buffed it away or if he really is missing his ear. The space is sunken in a little bit from where his ear would be to about the middle of his head. Thanks.

I've never heard of an error like this so I say PMD.

I see weak areas in other parts of the coin so I am thinking it's a Greaser.

It appears to have been struck through something. Whatever it was would have been more solid than just grease, possibly "press gunk"(hardened grease and metal dust mixture).

I've sold a few of these. I believe it to be the shield somehow causing it.

Looks more like a Struck Through Grease error to me. The ear area was filed thus preventing the ear to form.

It looks like Grease Filled Die . I have an example here of an S.B.A that had the same issue little different location and still has the grease in it. If I removed it would be more prominent but not doing that. Notice the o e almost gone all the way and then the blob in the middle. It's oddly similar
