hola,

I am working on a project that requires knowing the topography of the letters of this short series of classic coins.

After contacting a couple of supposedly reliable sources two conflicting responses are surfacing.

The letters and objects in question are the 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' along with the corresponding banner that lies underneath these letters in the shape of an arc.

Since it is virtually impossible to ascertain these details by only looking at a 2D photo I need to know:

a) is the arc-shaped banner on the reverse 'raised' above the surface or incuse (an impression stamped down into the coin's surface) and

b) are the letters, 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', that are centered within the arc-shaped banner 'raised' above the surface of the banner or incuse (an impression stamped down into the thickness of the arc-shaped banner)?

If I had a toothpick and the coin in hand, I could find all of this out in a snap.

Please indicate what the response is and a related referencing web site for future inquiries for other US coins.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

The banner is raised, with incuse lettering.
