Hello all, I found a 1652 Pine Tree Shilling in a coin collection that my grandma gave me and I have had it for a while but haven't bothered to find out if it is fake or not. It doesn't have an 'H' in Massachusetts. as you can see in the pictures it appears the edges have been clipped or something and I know the weight should be about 4.5 grams but this one is 3.5 which may be due to the clipped edges. SPECS: The coin is 26mm in diameter and it weighs 3.5-3.6 grams and as shown in the pictures its quite thin. Also this coin is not magnetic. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks!

I am no expert on colonials but the coin looks genuine to me. After doing a bit of quick research, it appears to match Noe-11. I agree clipping is probably the culprit for the low weight. The patina on this coin is wonderful. Quite a nice gift from your grandma! Keep it safe and enjoy!

I'm on your side. I hope it's a good one. If this is the kind of stuff you got (assuming it's genuine) please do not hesitate to show us more.

Boy, that looks genuine. If fake, it's a darn good job.

It isn't your typical obvious fake and I don't see anything that jumps out at me that says fake. The thinness of the planchet is a good sign, most fakes are too thick. I'd say odds are fairly good that you have a real one. I don't have the references need for attribution but if it can be confirmed to be a known variety that would also be a good sign.

Thanks for all your input. I am planing on getting it authenticated through an authorised dealer from PCGS on another forum, but I will let you all know how it goes and what the outcome is. If anyone has any questions just let me know.
