A few weeks ago at the Boston Baystate show, I bought my first coin from Denmark. It is a 1693 silver 4 Mark piece with a portrait of King Christian V.

Collectors-Of-Scandinavian-Coins?

Anyone here collect Scandinavian coins? Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland? What do you have? What are you looking for? It seems hard to find nice coins from these countries -- both online and at shows I go to in New England.

Nothing to write home about from me in that regard. I've got a dozen or so predecimal pieces from the Scandinavian countries, nothing older than the 1700's, but they were all acquired in bulk lots of mixed world coins; as you might expect, they're mostly worn flat.

That's a lovely one you've got there.

Very nice. Most of what I have are from the late 19th through the mid 20th century.

Thanks! It was the first coin I bought at the show and the definitely the best catch of the day.

Your WWI and WWII iron pieces from Sweden are very interesting. Do you find that iron surfaces are stable? Do you do anything special to preserve them?

As long as they are not handled very often and are kept in a dry location they are stable.
