I Fear I'm Obsessed

I...don't know where to begin. It feels like you are all talking about me. Once when I were at a small chinese food place I spotted a silver coin from the 50's in the tip jar (you rarely see the silver in circulations anymore here), so I picked it up and put back another coin. The guy behind the counter just looked at me with big eyes. He probably thinks I'm an idiot

Always and everytime I check my change, my friends change, walk with my eyes on the ground just looking for dropped coins. I have even got my closest friends and my girlsfriend to save their chánge so I can check them.

I don't say though that I can't think about anything else. But as soon as I spot an ATM I make a withdrawal just so I can get change. I always pays with 100-bills, even if it just costs 17 crowns and I have a 20 bill.

I don't say that I'm obsessed, but to wait for two (TWO!) days just to get the coins in the mail is way too long. I am willing to send an angry e-mail to the seller just to ask where my coins are - then I realize that it's just been an hour since I won the auction.

I just, like coins..they're shiny, round, smooth, loveable..Just imagine if you could just get THAT coin in your change, that'd be awesome......

Speaking of change cups at work.... a few months ago I found an XF 1904 Indian Head cent in our snack bar cup and almost wet my pants (ALMOST, that is!). I must have checked that cup every day for the next two weeks in the hope that the person who threw it in there had some more oldies. Alas, no such additional luck.

LOL, I like the idea cashforcoins, I have almost though about that myself (:P) I just wished I could play guitar..and sing..then I would be playing guitar and singing for change all day long!

I've been saving several different coinages and years for various reasons, besides looking for key dates and AU/MS looking coins. There's the Wheats that we've got a decent horde of, and a collection of by year and mint. LMC's 82 and earlier, horded and a collection of. Started keeping all 83 LMC's to later weigh when I get a gram scale. A small horde of Zincolns for rolling, and a horde of AU/MS (best possible examples) Zincolns for I'm not sure what right now. I'm specifically saving all the early 80's nickels of prominence (though I know that the prices reflect the full-steps condition), 2004 nickels because of the different backs, 05's because of the different design alltogether (plus a bit higher value) 06 nickels dimes and quarters because that was the year my oldest son was born (it will be a graduation type gift in the form of a few huge jugs of coins of his birth year) and the same with the 09 nickels, dimes and quarters for my youngest (though this has been way slower so far - his gift will probably consist of fewer coins, but higher dollar collector coins). Have also been keeping all bicentennial quarters. And then there's the horde of 1981 proof sets I'm going to give to my wife as a b-day present this year (not something normally found in a parking lot, but at around 5 bucks, why the heck not?)
That's about....oh wait...been giving the boys every 64 nickel I find to put in their piggy-banks.
I got one of those coin sorter/roller things for Christmas. That's been fun.

That's my everyday list.
I look threw my change pick the coins I like. I don't give a coin what others say about the coins I like.

Coins are coins,
paper money is what buys me coins.

Here is my proof of obsession:
- I always compare the amount of money my wife and I spend at stores to the amount of silver we could have purchased instead
- I have spent countless hours teaching my five year old son which coins have silver.
- My son knows that when we are a the checkout line at stop and shop, he is to immediately run to the coin star machine and check the slot.
- I park as far away as possible when going to stores, just so I can scan the parking lot for dropped coins.
- I use at least three lunch breaks a week to go to my local coin shop, even when I don't have money in my pocket.
- On Sundays, I take my son to ice skating lessons, on the way home I purposely take the long way to drive by the coin shop to see if they are open. Even though I know they are closed on Sundays.
- I keep three Redbooks on hand for reference. One at work, one downstairs next to my recliner, and one upstairs in the bedroom next to the PC.
- I have a standing request, for the last three years, for all holiday presents, to only receive silver. I have yet to receive an ounce of silver from my family.
- I have a silver spot app on my iPhone that I refresh every 30 minutes.
- Dreams about finding silver hoards at least once a week

I'm sure there are many more "quirks" but I am spent.
