Hi there! I'm wondering if you all have any recommendations for good methods of coin storage. At the moment I'm just starting to collect 5- and 10-cent coins from circulation, and any advice would be very welcome. Thanks!

Hi mdavi,

Welcome to CCF

The two most popular methods recommended for coins are the non-PVC options - 2x2s or saflips.

This subject has been discussed on CCF a bit so by using the search function you should be able to find what other collectors have said on their preferred options eg https://goccf.com/t/127090&SearchTe...coin,storage.

Hi mdavi,

Firstly

Now as for storage, for your really nice grade coins go with the 2x2's or flips. (they can be expensive when you are talking 1000's of coins.

There is another option though. You can get folder sheets that have a slide in insert for different size coins. They are mylar so no PVC issues, and hold a lot more coins per sheet than the 2x2's.

I also pick any commemorative from circulation, I collect a dozen or so per week of all denominations by this method. They are just thrown in a 2 litre plastic jar.
When the jar is full, I will have about $500 face value.
I will pick out the best example of every type, and all interesting varieties that may be scarce.
These will go into 2x2's, the rest will go back into circulation.
The bonus is that I will have perhaps $450 extra to spend, that I never budgeted for.

Will most (all?) coin stores have 2x2s, flips and folder sheets? I'm in Sydney, but I haven't been to any local stores yet, so I'll probably just have a look at the different options up close when I get a chance and see what will meet my needs best.

They will most likely all have supplies such as 2x2 and albums.

Make sure that whatever you buy is PVC free. If they don't know whether it is or not, go elsewhere.
