I stopped at SEFCU to pick up the box of halves that I ordered. When I got home I opened it and found the end coin in each & every roll was a Bicentennial. I then proceeded to open 2 rolls. Both rolls were all Bicentennials. I have never rec'd. a box full of just one date. I was wondering what may have happened. I was under the impression that all halves just get dumped into a machine & get rolled. It just seems funny that a $500 box may be full of one date. Any ideas my Friends?

A tremendous stroke of bad luck you had there. Were they all in really good shape? I have been finding so many of those in really good shape lately too. Someone may have had a bunch that they ordered back in the 70's and decided to cash in. Or someone had been keeping them from circulation because they thought they were special then decided they weren't worth it since it seems like about 1/3 are dated 1976.

I agree. I think someone had hoarded them. They, or their heirs, then decided to cash them in.

I opened 12 rolls, all were Bicentennial. These rolls came in a sealed String & Son box. I haven't found anything worth keeping yet.

O_o Wow that's unusual. Someone must have dumped their bicentennial horde and that's what you nabbed.

That is not necessarily bad luck. I saw $218 in halves on ebay sell for $268. If you can make $100 profit off of the box, that would be better than just turning them in. I would try ebay.

Wow, that is some bad luck. Bassmaster makes a good point. Maybe someone on ebay would be interested. As long as you make more than $500 after fees, you would do fine.

i have had the same thing happen to me solid rolls of 1976 , I have found a whole box that was all 1976 and 1971 solid rolls . if they are gem condition I would sell on ebay like some other members suggest if you can make $15 a roll that is like finding 1 40% in each roll .. if they are someones throw backs that they seperated in to rolls of 1976 then not worth much more then face although then I would try selling by $100 on ebay if you have time can still make a profit

That's an interesting find. Personally though, it would be worth $100 to me to not have to deal with ebay.
