http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...19&rd=1&rd=1I actually bought this exact penny today at a coin shop. I most certainly did not pay $30+ for it so I wonder if the title of the auction is the real cause of the people bidding wildly? Is this a legitimate practice? What do you think of the person who does these auctions in this format?

PEOPLE ARE DUMB! There are a Lot of people out there that are easily manipulated with catchy wording. The ones I hate the most are the auctions that have about 10 coins pictured and in fine print says "You only receive ONE coin" I firmly believe you should be requried to take an IQ test before you are allowed to buy. No idiots...No scammers.

Notice how there is a question mark after that statement?
I've been adding quite a few off-centers to my collection, and I have never paid so much.
Guess I better go bid now,I mean a one in ten million error,I better hurry so someone doesn't out bid me... Hahaaaa LOL. :) sn31.

Nah, Hang in there and things will get better!!Don't stoop yourself to those levels, keep with this forum, and you will end up being an outstanding collector, and since you are already a member of this forum, that makes you outstanding. It's what seperates us from the wolves.
Are you into all errors,or just off-centers?I've personally been into off-centers,although I have several DD,and others.
Keep your chin up!! :) Sn31.

I'm into all errors. Today I bought a 1972 double die penny . It's not a very clear double die but you can see the doubling, it was cheap. But yeah, I prefer errors over anything. I do want to do a 1909 to present penny collection, it could take a while to do it lol

I never turn anything away,my variety and errors contain quite a few mixes from DD's,off-centers to misprints. When I first started out with this forum,I had some coins I had inherited from my dad, although I kept every Wheat cent and Canadian cent I ever found,I was focused on completing my Wheat cent collection. So far,I have finished 2 complete sets of wheat cents dates, not all mints.Lo and behold, there came many more interests for me.From Canadian collector coins to other US,Aussies, and errors... Not only is this forum educational, but full of members who will get you addicted to EVERYTHING!! I have so many collections started,I hope I can complete them all ,LOL. :) Sn31.

ohhhhhh noooooooo the bidder is one of my good customers has been starting to buy into errors etc but by the looks of it doesn't realise the huge difference in rarity between the Australian & American errors of the same type. If this was an aussie coin it would be a good buy.

A coin dealer around here had a bunch of these and was selling them for $10.00 a pop. Like Australia, if this was a Canadian cent it would be a rarer item.

The most recent years(since 2002?) of Lincolns that are off-center are worth a bit due to the fact that the Mint has really cut down on errors getting out. The problem is, they have to have a legible date to be worth the premium
