Hi guys, I got a $10 bill back from a gas station this week, and want to know if you would keep it or spend it. It's a brand new perfectly crisp 1982 $10 bill. Nothing unusual about the bill or number aside from it being a crisp 30+ year old bill.
Is it worth hanging onto and adding to my small collection of bills (that are mostly star notes)? Or should I not bother?

Thanks

Id keep it, considering its a $10. I mean, if you ever do need it you can just get it out and use it.

I may keep it. I'm not going to "need" the $10, I was just wondering if it was silly to hang on to it.

If it's crisp, give it 25 years. It'll be worth something then. :-)

i would keep it. it sounds like you have a rare error on your hands with that 1982 $10. are you sure it is not a 1981 or even 1981A $10.
Rest in Peace

Inflation will go up faster than the value of that note, spend it.

On one hand it's only ten dollars and it is 30+ years old so you should keep it. On the other hand it really has no premium on it right now and might take quite a long awhile before it acquires a premium. If your collection is still small I'd say keep it until you have a larger collection or better notes. Fed Reserve Notes 1969 and onwards (small head portraits) are generally very easy to get and you only need to pay a small premium over face value to get one in very nice condition. It is rather inexpensive to collect those.

I said originally I would not keep it, but sometimes when I find a note and I am not sure I usually just throw it in my safe. Sooner or later I will get in and sort/organize stuff and I will come across it at a later time. That is usually when I make the decision to keep or spend. May turn out you have learned something in that time that would better help you to make that choice. And you may need cash then too and that also helps make that choice easier.

with ckrakowski.

Check the year. $10 bills went from 1981 and 1981A right to 1985.

Thanks for all your input, I am going to keep it. Sorry, I misquoted the year. I wrote the original post at work, after looking at it at home it is 1981 not 1982. The serial number is A02565379A if anyone cares.
Thanks again.

I don't see any reason to keep that.

If it makes you happy, keep it. It's only 10 bucks. Personally I'd have a hard time not rescuing a bill that's survived (relatively?) unscathed for 30 years from further circulation.
