I have an agreement with a detectorist - I'm starting with 100 coins and ill be selling probably 8 or 9 lots of 10 (with a bonus coin, of course).
I need a description and a price. I need to prove this is viable with the first lot before I get into any bulk so I'm thinking the first lot will have to be £10 per lot - id like to sell as many coins as possible on CCF.
Heres what I reckon the pricing will be: 1 coin - £5 (have to make it worth my while!) 10 coins - £1 each 20 coins - 90p each 50 coins - 85p each 100 coins - 80p each And the description? Well, these arent unsearched. The detectorist has sold some coins seperately and has seen every single coin come out of the ground. for example, hes sold an allectus recently but he might not have found the uncleaned ones which were less obvious. And I certainly wont be able to resist poking through them (Im looking for a specific type in any grade - Constans Galley type). Ill be sure to put 'UK dug' - seems to command a premium.
Any tips, hints? Thoughts? Disagree with pricing? If they are lower grade than I expected I can slash the price.

Well Ben, as we have mentioned in the "Jargon Of Dodgy e**y Sellers" I think it is best to show all the coins in the photo, i.e. not in a pile. Unless you are in a rush to sell them, take your time, sell say 25 in lot, with a photo of the obverse and another with the reverse side. Then you cover yourself, you have given the prospective buyer the chance to view the coins, nothing hidden.
Of course you can sell the Lot by grade. Best to "call a Spade a Spade" as I have seen one seller on e**y (whose name begins with an e and ends with an s) that sells Lots at a starting price of £14.99, and they got negative and neutral feedback on Lots sold that turned out to be be slugs. So best to state matter of factly the condition.

I can't help you much with the description still new to all of this. The only thing I would ask is not have only large 20+ lots. You may be able to get consistent newer hobbyists as repeat customers who don't have the funds or can't justify puchasing large lots.
Now to get myself to 50 posts to buy

Masis - I intend to do so. The lots the guy sells look to have alright detail on the coins but I dont htink it will be easily apparent in photos. We'll see. My plan was to sell by lots of 10 mostly - part of the fun witht his is you dont know what coins you'll get so I dont htnk id take apicture of each lot of 10.
I think when I get them ill seperate them into grades (there could be a lot of culls). This would mean the higher grades get a higher value but the lower grades get lower values.
Or not, depends what people here think. Any more opinions?
EDIT: Whizbang: You can just PM me once I've put up the trade thread- the post limit is for posting on the trading forum

I see a lot of mixed Lot auctions, that do well, by sellers who get return buyers and high bids. So perhaps having Lots by grade is not in your best interest.

When I buy uncleaned coins, I only buy ones that show the actual coins I am buying. That being said, this sounds like a very desirable lot, not searched by an unknown number of middlemen. I don't clean many coins these day, but I would totally buy a batch just to see if the quality is better than the usual ebay lots. The price seems very reasonable, can't wait to see the first ones you post.

Soon as I can I'll be giving over the money and getting on with it - he's not so very active online.
Ill post pictures of the lot spread out and try and maintain good customer service that id expect if I were buying.
My main worry is that I buy the lot and all the coins are culls that cant be sold on. This is the advantage of buying from Middle Eastern whole salers - the coins come by grade but at a much higher price (here we are talking 4x the price from the only seller I could find offering less than 5kg at a time).

With things like this you live and die on the quality of the coins but its a bit of a crap-shoot for everyone involved. At least with photos everyone should know roughly what they are getting - never liked the 'stock' photo thing.

As long as shipping isn't too bad I expect I will be picking up a couple. Just don't take all the best ones!
