You called it a "discovery piece",has it been certified by a TPG or at least by an expert? All I'm seeing is MD, at least when I can make out what I'm looking at. |

denco what I see now is that You just go with what ever they say does it look like yours all of a sudden too?

All I am seeing is some Machine Doubling. Flat and shelf-like, no split serifs on the letters, and thickness removed from the high points of the letters instead of being added to, as in the case of a true doubled die. I have seen Machine Doubling on many of the Statehood Quarters, it's a very common occurance and not worth anything. Also, it would be very unusual for a modern doubled die to affect the outer devices such as on your coin. The mint uses a "single Squeeze" method to produce the dies, and as such, most doubling occurs near the center of the coin. For example, all the "extra fingers" on the 2009 Lincoln Formative Years Cent, the extra "trees" on the Minnesota Quarters, and the doubled earlobes on the Statehood Quarters. Keep looking though, they are out there! Dave |

Dave take the t for example thos are not split serif to the righ and can you suggest links where I can learn more about the minting process?

This is a case where there is too much magnification. Plus lighting the lighting is terrible. Very hard to make an accurate assessment. But this is another case of the one holding the coin is convinced and nothing anyone says to the contrary will be correct.

After someone fixed your link, I edited my post to reflect the fact that I could watch it, and in my opinion all you were showing was due to Post Mint Damage. In my opinion many of the pictures showed PMD others have seen MD, if you see something else then just tell us, then we can concur or differ in our opinions. What is it you want us to see ? Yes I'm quoting myself because you didn't answer my question.A coin is usually called a "discovery piece" if it is the first of a variety to be authenticated. I stand by my second statement about it being MD, which can take various forms.Your magnification level is way too high. It looks to be over 150x. Try something closer to 50x or 60x. I'd love to tell you that you have something there but I'm not seeing it. |
