Anybody familiar with this error? Odd doubling and extra characters on the motto; doubling on Washington and snout.

to CCF. First let me say that I am not a pro but it looks like MD " Machine Doubling" but I am not positive so hand on to it for now. It really does look neat though.Give it a bit and more members will chime in on this.

I believe this is a classic case of Machine Doubling. The 2002 clad proof I have has a bigger flat spread than the one pictured here.

I appreciate the welcome and the replies. Suspected this may be MD but still puzzled by the extra characters - On the P and top of the R and the B. Anyway, will keep a watch on this one. Thanks again.

Take images of a normal coin that matching the angles you taken your coin and place them side by side to see if the overall devices are the same size or reduced by the doubling. I'm not familiar with this denomination. That would help.

Here is what John Wexler said about your coin:

Quote:

Coop,

Classic Mechanical Doubling. On incuse letters, which is the case on this coin, it looks remarkably like doubled die doubling but isn't.
