Not sure where to ask this but I am looking into buying some coins off of ebay and the problem that I am running into is that a lot of dealers won't ship over seas. I am currently stationed in Okinawa Japan. I was wondering if anyone knows if I win a bid can I have it shipped somewhere else? Thanks in advance!

You can change your ebay shipping address so it will go where you want it, or attach a note to the order with the shipping address. If you do the 2nd option you might want to check with the sellers first

Sellers are allowed to not ship to a certain country. A lot don't ship outside of North America because it's much harder for them to be reimbursed in case of a scam. You could ask a friend in the seller's country to bid and then have him ship it to you.

If by "stationed" you mean in the US Armed Forces overseas they will still be shipping to an APO (or similar) in the USA

I have a no sales outside the country policy on ebay but I have easily shipped to Germany many times and paid US rates...

If you're not in the service then it IS a pain to ship overseas.... customs form says on the outside of the package how much it's worth so they my as well just stamp "Steal Me" on the outside...sometimes it takes months to deliver a package. Not worth it....

Some do it routinely but I like closure with my sales and follow tracking until it's delivered...with overseas it just enters the abyss and that's that....

You probably shouldnt have a problem with APO address, one solution could be though to have it shipped to your parents or a family member then have them send it to you

Shipping times to Okinawa have probably improved since I was stationed there, 1978-81.

ebay sellers are reluctant to ship to APO/FPO addresses as mentioned because of the scammers out there. Many have simply thrown up their hands and said they will only ship to a confirmed physical address in the Continental US.

Having it shipped to a third party normally isn't a viable option because they will only ship to the confirmed PayPal address. Someone else would have to bid for you.

A third option would be to contact a trusted party (family) and create an account using their address. This would require a bank acct or credit card with that same address on the billing statement. With this set-up you could bid for yourself and then have them forward the item(s) to you. A drawback would be the return policy. Many are now set at 14 days. That starts on the day it's delivered to the stateside address. That would be cutting it a bit thin.

For all that are unfamiliar with APO/FPO shipping costs ... the sender pays for movement to the port (in benchfreak221's case it's San Francisco). The DOD uses organic movement and absorbs the cost to Okinawa. So there would not be an increased shipping cost.
