I just seen this lot sell on ebay.

I am assuming the price went this high because of a variety on the 1859 Cent. Looking in my catalogue, I can't see what variety this coin is (If it is one. Although, the pictures aren't the greatest either).

What am I missing?

I guess it would help if I posted the link.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Old-Cana...t_481wt_1318

The price jumped from $151.36 with just over 1 minute left, to a final selling price of $227.50.

Regardless of the variety on the '59 the lot seems to have sold way over value to me. I picked up a lot of 20 '59-96 in way better condition for $35.00 at an auction about 2 months ago.

I am really curious what people saw in this listing that I am not seeing.

Someone is going to be very disappointed. The '59 isn't what he thinks it is. There are a few scarcer dates there, but with heavy wear and corrosion .. and the photos are not good. I don't think any of the bidders have a whole lot of experience, but ebay is "buyer beware".

Yeah, I agree what did anyone see in that bunch.

The pictures were so dark you couldn't make out half the coins, definitely not worth $220.00 odd dollars.

Looking at the other items this seller has sold. I think it might be shill bidding.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Old-Cana...t_481wt_1318

Both lots were bid up in the end by three people. (7 Feedback, 39 Feedback, and 46 Feedback)

The seller also has these two lots ending soon. I would bet they will both be bid up in the end by those three bidders.

It's not a 9/8. As far as I can tell it's nothing and, BTW, I was the co-author on the Charlton variety section that you were looking up to compare to the auction.

Banknotes .... You were right. The same bidders, probably shills. BTW, Dan (above) was another of the co-authors.

Wow! good eye! The same guys are bidding on but never winning the auction. Putting in bids just high enough to bump the sale price! The final sale price of the first is absolutely crazy. I should round up 10 large cents and put them up for auction even at half that selling price!
