I purchased this recently from ebay for a great price. It was listed as UNC condition, though I bought it as being at least XF and possibly as high of a grade as AU. I do not think it is MS, though I am no coin grader, nor an expert. I weighed the coin and the weight is correct, does not appear mint altered. What would you grade this coin, and any authenticity issues? Thank you all in advance for your help. Edited by rum_n_cola 02/13/2013 7:45 pm

The back looks to be in AU condition. I can't tell from the pictures of the obverse. Any chance of getting a less saturated picture?

Thank you for your replies. At your given grade, given that you are saying it may have been cleaned/polished. What is current market value for my coin? I purchased this for $300 and think it was a great buy.

I agree, based on the pictures provided, the coin appears to have EF-45 details, cleaned. If genuine, that would be a very good price. Do you think you would be able to post a clear close up of the area circled? There is a die scratch in the talon that is present on genuine coins.

Utterly incomprehensible. A cleaned, high VF Details (which is how I see the coin) 1894 is worth well over $800. And that seller deals in coins. Laugh all the way to the bank, buddy.

DOUBLE: My camera wont take that high-res of a photo to capture the die scratch appears to be present. Thank you for that valuable information.

SDAVE: I know, I Was happy to get the deal when I made the offer. Most of the 1894-P on ebay are in poor condition and still end up going for more than what I paid for this example. Thanks for your response.

Based on the amount of wear on the hair, I would say VF.

My initial assessment was a VFish coin as well. Cleaned? Perhaps. This needs to go to ANACS.

Whoever listed that as UNC is either a criminal or knows nothing about coins.
