Hello,my name is Robert and I am the owner of a rare 1968 Roosevelt dime that came from the San Francisco Mint. The dime was included in the plastic along with the other 1968 coins as a mint set and was originally purchased by my grandfather in 1968. This dime is uncirculated and in extremely fine condition and has never been opened from the mint plastic it was originally placed In by the mint. The dime is one the few remaining unfound dimes that San Francisco Mint accidentally sent out before the missing mint mark was discovered. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Do you have a better picture? It looks like a regular Philadelphia dime to me from the picture.

Doesn't look to be proof from the pictures...

I have better pictures but this site makes me use their app to download it. I have the complete 1968 mint set with the original envelope. Also the mint tag that comes with the set. This dime is with the San Francisco Mint set.

The "Missing S" 1968 Roosevelts are from the Proof sets, which came in a hard plastic case, like so:

The 1968 Mint set included an S penny, but no S dime. Is it still in the original plastic ?

It sure has...the coin pictured is out of whatever it was in. Seriously though, 68 proof dimes were extremely brilliant, even after being worn. There is no way this coin is a proof. It's a normal 1968 dime from either the P or D mint....remember all business strikes didn't have mintmarks this year.

It doesn't even look like it is in any plastic let alone a hard plastic case. It just looks like a 1968 rosie to me. If it came in an envelope and not a small box, then it is not a proof set. Take a picture of the entire set. I don't want to burst your bubble but your $16,000 set may only be worth about $6.00.

The Red is the Denver Mint set , not S.F
It may have been sent out of the Assay Office in S.F. but the coins were minted in Phila. (blue stripe ) and Denver (red stripe )

Yes it is in its original plastic and has not been opened. The penny is the S marked penny.

Obviously something fishy here...Your set is not proof, it's uncirculated and your set is from Denver, not SF. Also, the first picture of your "No "S" Dime" is clearly not a proof.

Ill open it again and retake more photos. I think I shot both sets and the San Francisco set is blue and with the no s dime.

Yes the "no s dime" is from proof sets. The dime pictured is obviously a business strike. Sorry we had to break it to you. Keep searching there may be still some out there.

Ok thanks for the help. How can I tell the difference between the business strike coin?

The proofs will have mirrored fields with frosted devices. They will look like the coins ssuperddave posted.
