Good call, it is in a slab however, that is a lot of money and there are bound to be better ones from well known trusted coin dealers out there, keep looking you'll know when you find the right one. I pull the trigger all the time without really checking stuff out, but never for more than $20.00 on ebay, anything more deserves a closer look.

If you purchase on ebay (and also if you pay with a credit card) you should have some protection if you receive no item. In this case, since it is a graded coin, we should trust that the coin itself is legitimate.

Yes, if you pay with a credit card, you will be doubly protected. You will have ebay Buyer Protection and credit card protection. I think that these protections definitely help the buyer and the seller. People are willing to give people a second chance to make things right.

Nice coin, provided that the certification can be proven. I can't comment on value for money if genuine, because I don't collect at this level of investment.
You can't check the coin 'in hand', unless you break the slab.

I always look at the seller before buying on ebay, feedback etc. Then I look at all the other coins they have for sale to see if any are misrepresented. worn coins call uncirculated, cleaned coins called BU, stuff like that, if so- good bye. Not to be confused with good buy

It sold for $5,463.65. Is that a fair price for that coin? Not a gold collector......yet. Probally going to be awhile at those prices. Lol When I buy on ebay, I generally have the same opinion as westcoins, I generally dont check feedback on smaller purchases.

The seller has some major TPG certified Ancients for sale presently, which makes it more believable that they are now an outlet for coin collectors. On a listing for a coin of the value that the OP questioned, I would have been in contact by telephone to the seller to afford myself a better profile of them and the origin of the coin. Appearances can be deceiving both ways, positive and negative. At the very least, I would strongly suggest an escrow transaction to the seller as an added layer of protection, offering to split the escrow fee.

Lol That's a tough coin, and I don't think the price was out of line. Were the surfaces original, it would have gone for over $10k. But with that feedback, I'd have never touched it.

There is a huge flaw in the ebay feedback system that I think everyone should know about. Sellers can't leave buyers bad feedback. I had someone purchase an item, and because I'd be busy I went ahead and shipped it. He never paid and all I could do was open a case with ebay, which did nothing.

ebay allows sellers to respond to feedback though, don't they?

I do a fair amount of business on ebay but I am very cautious. I think people tend to over pay too. I try to go slow, a good thing about this hobby is there is no rush or deadline and you can put it down and walk away for a little while, sometimes the wise thing to do. I have had some buyers remorse and said why did I buy this?

I'll admit my post is kind of to show off a new coin I just bought but it's relevant to this thread. I'd heard some bad things about the seller eternitycoin here and a couple of other places. Then sure enough I came across a coin that I really liked on ebay but it was from that seller. I started checking as many ways I could to make sure it wasn't a scam and in the end felt comfortable bidding. The main things that made me feel safe to bid where that it was in a PCGS slab rather than one of the "other" TPGs they frequently sell. The other was that the coin was one of the ones featured in PCGS coinfacts so I had the picture to rely on. Frequently that's not the case but my point is that even so called scammers likely mix in the real thing to keep from being too obvious and getting booted from ebay. Anyway, here's the coin I bought. I received it today and it's a beauty. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20089954561....m1439.l2649http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/14720522/http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/92...27203230.jpg
