Good Morning,
My research has brought me to the conclusion that Tasmania did not release any coins although they may well have produced tokens - probably private stuff. Tasmania, like the other British colonies that made up pre-federation Australia, used English coinage until 1911 when, after 10 years of federation, Australia released it own currency based on the British currency of the day. That is pounds, shillings and pence. Because of the shortage of hard currency in the early days of British settlement on the east coast foreign coins were used as was bartering and also rum was used. Foreign coins were used with an agreed value. A holey Dollar and dump were produced from the Spanish Dollar in 1813 and Adelaide produced the Adelaide Pound in 1852. Their was a mint in Sydney producing gold coins from the 1850's.
