bbddbb10 Valued Member United States 111 Posts	Posted 02/15/2013 9:03 pm As some of you may know, I had an 1858 Flying Eagle with abnormally dark toning. I wanted to bring out the details in it, so I soaked it in acetone. I didn't get very much result out of that, so I soaked it in a soap and vinegar solution. Here is where I am at now. Do you think I should keep soaking in and bring out more of the yellow metal color or keep it the way it is? It looks a little better that it does in the pictures. Report this Post to the Staff

I wouldn't spend too much more time with this one unless you're in the mood to play. The rim ding and surface damage coupled with VF Details leave you with a $15 coin. This seems like a terrible question considering that I just took off most of 154 years of toning, but is there any way to tone a coin a little bit after you have cleaned it? I mean, just to darken the coloring a little so it blends better? I read somewhere that putting coins in sunlight can have some affect? Report this Post to the Staff
BH1964 Bedrock of the Community United States 10982 Posts	Posted 02/16/2013 11:29 pm There are many ways to attempt a re-tone but I've never had good success with any quick method.
