This was a week or so ago. I can't find the link (didn't look too hard)... thieves came in through the roof and took a few hours getting in the safe. Jewelry, coins, and a lot of bullion stolen. It should be hard for them to move the privately minted bullion in quantity.

That stinks! I would think if they spent time cutting into a safe, probably several hours, they knew exactly what they were doing and already have a fence for the goods. This is not a spur of the moment type robeery by idiots or opprotunists, sounds more like a skilled con/burglar job to me. THey obviously knew how to disable the alarms, or if there weren't alarms, the owners were crazy.

Possibly would have quickly melted it down, and poured into some other molds.

There were alarms in the store, the alarms were disabled and the store manager was told by ADT that it was a cell backup failure and that it happens all the time - to just replace the battery the following day. No motion sensors were set off because they came through the roof which has a drop ceiling and just cut the lines to ADT.
We are speculating that it was someone who knew exactly what they were doing, like a former employee of ADT. No solid evidence has been given even though the burglars left urine in the toilet that the first responders of the Mobile Police Department flushed.
Source: I work at the location that was burglarized.

The manner the burglars operated sounds very professional which raises all sots of possibilities....., I just cant get over the urine left in toilet which the cops flushed ! Any idea why the first responders flushed it ?

My local coin shop at the end of the business day, puts everything in a gigantic safe that is wired for movement, vibration, drilling, you name it. That gets police there quickly. This safe is huge. About three times the size of a refrigerator and about 4" thick. Don't know why dealers leave their inventory out at night. Just asking for trouble

DaytR, I have no idea why the first responders flushed it or touched everything in the store. I know that one of them was a rookie and had no idea what they were doing...they wanted to climb up in the ceiling 'to check things out' when they first arrived. I quickly told them that they should probably wait until their Sargent arrived and to quit touching every single thing in the store - they were obviously not that intelligent.
Vermontensium, none of the inventory is left out at night. Ever. The burglars cut a massive hole in the safe that allowed them to remove all of our inventory from the store. As stated before, the wires were cut to ADT and all that I was told when they called me is the battery backup failed and to just get it replaced. The wires were cut above the ceiling (it's a drop ceiling - for some reason no one ever thought about getting motion detectors in the drop ceiling?) so no actual motion detectors were tripped.
Other security measures have been implemented and we are fully protected from this happening again.
