I am pretty confident that these has been cleaned, I just need someone to say, yes it has been cleaned.
Trying to sort out an old collection and am expanding my knowledge of what to look for.
I do understand that they are not the best grade coins, but we have to start somewhere.

The 1st one has definitely been cleaned at some point, but not sure about the second one. Its harder to tell when it has been heavily circulated. Lets see what the experts have to say...

I would say that they have both been cleaned as you can see the old patina between the letters and numbers.

So it is the colouring between the letters that give it away. Check.

Not always, lots of circulated coins are a different colour around the legends, hair line scratches under magnification are a more of a give away.

The first coin shows fine cleaning marks 'north to south'- the second coin not as obvious, however can I see a Cud below the 'E' in sixpence.?
