Does anyone know if there is any difference in the quality of the West Point verses the San Francisco Bullion Silver Eagles? The reason I ask is I'm going to buy a monster box and keep it sealed but I've noticed some bullion dealers ask more for 2011/2012 West Point sealed monster boxes than the San Fran monster boxes? Thanks Rich

Bullion is bullion , it is the same coin. Don't know why they would charge more, if you didn't know where they were minted you couldn't tell the difference.

If anything I would think they would charge more for the S.F, lower mintage.

Unless of course it is the uncirculated " satin proof " Eagles with a " W " mint mark. Those sell at a premium and are different from the West Point bullion issues.

You asked the same question in your first post in less than a hour. People here are not sitting around just to answer questions. So give it some time.

denco7 thanks,I'm looking at the BU bullion sealed monster boxes that identify the mint they where made and I would keep them sealed for future sale when/if silver goes up.I was thinking that the San Fran mintage figures would be lower than West Point also. Thanks Again Richt1022

richt, remember, either way, YOU can NOT open that box. The minute YOU break the seal, the ability to distinguish between W and S is gone. The fact you know means squat. If you want to have that designation, which I am presuming you do, you have to send the box into one of the TPGs still sealed, and then THEY will do the designating.

All that aside, get the one you get the best deal on. I don't see there being a huge difference between the two in premiums.

denco, I disagree. There well could be a difference between the two. Very often you can tell a Denver business strike from a Philly without seeing the mm. And I bet plenty of folks here could point out a New Orleans Morgan from a San Fran from a CC from 10 feet away. So to say that is certainly NOT the case for the Eagles could well be flat out wrong. As a matter of fact, this very subject was broached in another thread where someone was noticing that the W slabbed coins seem to be frostier than the S slabbed coins. So it's already being noticed.

Smokerideron l am thinking the bullion eagles mintage would be lower from the San Fran mint than W.P.mint and I plan on selling them in the furtue sealed.(provided silver climbs good and high).

Anything is possible, but does anyone really think there is a discernible difference? Certainly not anyone I have talked to. Certainly not any of the TPGs. You said yourself .

I remember commenting in that thread, that I thought the difference the OP was seeing, was due to the different " newness " of the dies. The reason why New Orleans Morgan's are so discernable from others is because they were the Cinderella of all the mints. The equipment and dies they used were all used and reconditioned from the Phila and SF mints. I don't think that is the case with the West Point and SF mints.

I do agree that , cost being similar, if it is just a pure silver investment and the box will remain sealed, might as well go with the SF box. Although I could not see myself paying anymore for a sealed box than an opened one, unless I was a slab dealer
