Thank you all for your patience regarding my novice questions, but what is the difference between proof and regular strikes, as when I check the PCGS pricing guide I find 2 tables for the pricings, with the same items inside and different prices.

Thank you friends

Regular strikes use the normal dies used to produce circulation coins. Proof strikes are produced from dies that are typically polished and may be frosted in some areas. Normally the frosting is on the devices and the polished areas are in the fields, but 'reverse' proofs swap this around. Also, proofs are usually struck multiple times to give a better 'strike'.

Here's pictures of a the normal circulation and proof strikes of the same coin:

markn, great display of the difference.

Hankash, there is also a glossary here which will further describe the process. http://www.coincommunity.com/dictionary/
