Hi everyone. New to collecting, but I got this from a reputable local dealer because it seemed like a good deal. Only thing that worries me is that this Morgan dollar doesn't have the "Cartwheel" effect at all, unlike my 1889-S. What do you think?

Well it is a circulated coin, so there would be no "cartwheel" effect. That comes from uncirculated coins reflecting light of a relatively mark free surface.

In my opinion this coin's grade is VG8. The current value is between $35-45 at a coin shop.

I concur with westcoin on the grade. You usually don't see much if any of the cartwheel effect until you reach at least AU. Given the level of wear, I would be more concerned if it did than didn't.

Thank you all for taking the time to help a new collector out. VG huh? Not bad. I would like to mention that the coin has more "shine" to it than the picture picked up. Do you think it has been cleaned? Picking up cleaned coins is something I don't want to do, and I still have a hard time telling what is and what isn't a cleaned coin. Supposedly the dealer tries to avoid putting cleaned coins in his showcases, but I always believe it is a good idea to double check.
