Hi all, I've just been noodling and may have discovered 2 varieties of 2003 10 cents! The difference is the gap between the end of the feather point and the SD. Looking at them at about 45x, the space on one is around 9mm while on the other it's about 12mm, you'll be able to see in the pics. The ratio so far, of about $16 worth, is 3 small space, 2 large space. Any ideas? Edited by Bonny 02/21/2013 01:05 am

Can you circle what you mean in the photo. They look the same to me.

I can't right now, as I said, between the end of the feather and the S. One is further away.

Hi Enworb, Bonny means that the red feather on the bottom comes out further towards the S (Hence the yellow arrow is shorter). Correct me if I'm wrong Bonny

Hi there. I think it is hard to compare the two images when they aren't of the same scale. IMHO, the bottom image is larger in scale than the top image. This means the size of the gap/arrow indicated in each image doesn't match to produce an accurate comparison. Are you able to provide two images that are exactly the same size so we can compare apples with apples? I'll be doing a happy dance myself if a new variety is identified and can be added to my list of "must haves".

Yes they are exactly the same, and it's not hard to see that, 'IMHO'. I retook them to make sure of that.

What might be different here is the sizes of the SD's. Can you take piccies of just the SD's making sure to use all the same settings and then post them so we can see if it's maybe a tiny SD and a slightly larger SD.
In the 2 pics above, the S on the lower coin appears larger than the S in the top image. Different sized SD's have been noted on quite a few coins in the past, but to my recollection, usually on 5c and 20c. I'm not sure anyone's ever found it on 10c.

I understand what you mean awildeheart and nancyc regarding the size etc. I first thought there may be some variance there too, but I think it's just that the bottom pic is rotated clockwise a little more. Before I posted the arrow pic above I did this one to make sure we were talking different length objects rather than different size objects as if the latter was the case the triangles would be exactly the same shape which t me they aren't. I'm just going to try and get a pair of them in hand to examine further.

BTW I think you're on the money Nancy with your thoughts on large thick / small thin SD
