I came across this 2008 penny and noticed the ear looked odd. I thought it was damage but looking closer was able to rule that out. The ear lobe looks split. I did a search on line and found a picture of the exact same coin with the odd ear but there was no info just someone else looking for info.

Does anyone know anything about it or what it could be>?

Don't know what caused it but it does not look like an error or variety.

Try putting an image of another normal ear with your image side by side. If the ear's are bothe the same size, then you know it was damaged. But if they are different then it would be worth another look.

I will find another 2008 and do a side by side picture, mine is not the only one out there is what is odd, I have posting on other sites of the exact same ear and at 200x mag I dont see impact marks like the the notch on the outside of the ear has, its smooth. One of the post and pictures I saw is from 2008 when they first came out. I will post the pictures of a side by side later when I have a 2008 in front of me.
