Hi,
I have just been given a reasonable amount of 1 & 2 cent coins, I was wondering what ones I should keep? Or should I keep them all? If I only keep a few what should I do with the rest?

Thanks, Ben

Keep 1968 1c and 2c. Check 1966, 67, 68 and 81 2c coins for those with a reverse that is missing the SD initials. Other than that I would keep any errors and any lustrous 1960's coins.

Ben, I know someone you could give the rest to.

Good luck with it though.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I am going through them now, I have $5.44 of 1 cents and $7.56 of 2 cent coins. So far I have found 2 1968 2 cent coins and no coins without the SD.

I have a few questions, what does it mean if they don't have the SD?
And why does a 68 2 cent sell for more than a 69 2 cent if there are more 68s?

Thanks

If they dont have the SD then it is a variety. It is known on several years as I outlined above. Some years have been shown to be struck from dies that are actually missing the SD. I suspect other years are a result of a Grease Filled Die. Either way it is an interesting variety that has resulted in some of the design missing.

There were no mint sets of mint rolls made in 1967 or 1968. The rolls that do exist often contain crappy coins because of the different paper used. Because of this it is harder to find a nice 1968 2c than a 1969 2c and hence the price difference. Why the 68's in low grade go for more than the 1969s is a bit of a mystery though.
