"The time has come for someone to put their foot down ..... and that FOOT is me !"
Dean Vernon Wormer of Faber College
From the 1978 movie 'Animal House'

As I have only read a small sampling of previous 'Smackdowns' I am hoping the topic might be 'new' (and not entirely inappropriate).

Most reverse types simply show a Deity or person posing in a standing or sitting position without much real action taking place. Very occasionally something is actually going on, one of my favorites being the Emperor 'slaying barbarian' types of Probus (Trajan on horseback shafting some 'unfortunate' being one of the earlier examples) being handed something or shaking hands or raising someone etc.

But sometimes the 'message' is slightly more subtle.

A God/Goddess with a foot placed on top of something. Maybe a globe or a helmet.

Or an Emperor with one foot firmly planted on top of a person place or thing. Constantius II had his foot on a wrecked chariot while he speared someone or my all time favorite (once again) Trajan, Trajan standing over reclining Armenia Euphrates and Tigris with his 'foot' firmly planted on the Euphrates (smile guys .... we gonna take a picture). The legend might as well have read "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED". If he had had an aircraft carrier I sure he would have included that too !

So here are the guidelines
Show a reverse type that shows someone with a foot sending a 'message'. It can be a God or Goddess ..... Neptune often puts his foot down ..... Victory is also fond of resting her foot atop something (or someone !).
In the interest of "EQUITAS" as some may not have any of the above defined .... feet in motion are acceptable too (Mars striding right (ie "Here I come .... you better run")

Simple scoring Gold Silver Bronze
Runs until Friday 10PM EST

Example A) AE As Hadrian standing right holding spear and parazonium left foot on crocodile (ref. Cohen 1383)

Smackdown-XxXVII--

Example B) AE Sestertius Domitian standing left holding spear and parazonium (one foot planted on) Rhenus reclining holding reed (ref. SEAR 2773 RIC 319)

Smackdown-XxXVII--

Two examples if you have them !!!

I hope this 'topic' is worthy

I don't collect ancients (just admire them from afar) but with an opening like:

Quote:
"The time has come for someone to put their foot down ..... and that FOOT is me !"

I MUST follow this Smackdown.

Sorry for the omission ! Yes 2 examples if you have them. It was my intention to state this but stopped temporarily then began to worry that I had picked a 'stupid' topic. By the time I decided to go ahead with it I forgot to mention it.

Notice in my Hadrian that the 'croc' is rather small (no dummy he) Tempted to think he was measuring it for size saying something like "Hmmm .... this one would make a nice pair of sandals" (and maybe a purse to match !)

Heres my entry. Not in hand yet but I may as well enter it now (thanks monkeybean!)

Valerian:
Smackdown-XxXVII--

Legend has it (on bad authority) that when Valerian and the Army was captured at the battle of edessa Shapur took them all back to persia (used the engineers it appears). Shapur needed to get onto his horse and the nearest footstall shaped object was poor Valerian. He (probably didnt) put his foot down on the only emperor ever captured in battle. It (would have been) was a massive embarrassment and a big shaming for the once mighty empire.

OH and when he died, they skinned him, stuffed his skin and kept it in a temple.

Smackdown-XxXVII--

If only Shapur minted a coin commemorating it...

I am tempted to buy a couple of coins which I could enter for this...I fear I will miss the deadline on that though. Therefore only one coin I have seems eligible...

Darius AR Siglos around 500BC Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance right, with bow and quiver / Incuse punch

Though debated whether it is kneeling or running I have always thought the latter (after all kneeling is not the standard stance to be using a bow)
