Well my girlfriend picked me up a Barber dime and a v-nickel for valentines day....she thought they looked pretty. Both are in Fine-ish condition....which got me motivated to start a fine to very fine set of Barber dimes and v-nickels....anyway here are 7 I just picked up in a lot off ebay....what would you grade?

I'd grade the 16' and the 11-D as VG8, the 09' as VG10, the 14' as VF20 and the rest as F12-15.

I have a question, my understanding that the qualification for a Fine grade is that all letters of liberty are visible....not necessarily crisp, but visible. So based on that would these all grade at least Fine or better? I'm basing this off photograde and something I read. I must admit I am not familiar with this series, so I am learning.

Yes, generally if you can make out all letters in LIBERTY the coin is a market-acceptable Fine. I think all these would make at least that grade. I recently looked through my dealer's bin of assorted Barber dimes and they were all lower grade; they pick out any pieces that make Fine. I would have been pleased to find some like the ones you posted at their "junk silver" price of $2.70 each, but no such luck.

There is not a single dime in this group that
is not LEAST a Fine.

Let's look at "Liberty." To be a fine, all seven letters
must show. NOT be complete, just SHOW. By that standard,
all meet the condition of fine.

The following cheat sheet may be of help:

Group-Of-Barber-Dimes

Your 1914 is an XF. Not a high XF, but an XF-40.

The 1910-S is a solid fine.

The 1911 a VF.

1909 a fine-15.

A very nice group. Would you be comfortable telling us how much you paid for the lot?

A set of dimes in Fine to VF? Doable, if you have about 25 to 30 years OR, less if you have an unlimited budget and
NEVER stop searching for them.

But OH, what OOHS and AHHS you will get from people when they see them.

A worthy challenge.

The color, the rims, ALL very nice as well as the actual wear.

@ matthewvincent, Thanks for the cheat sheet. I kind of stumbled across this lot on ebay, figure the 1910-S was a F-12 to F-15 and a bit of a better date from a condition standpoint. I ended up paying around $45 for the lot. I feel the 1910-S is worth close to that by itself.

EXCELLENT! The others were freebies!
Was hoping you came in under $70 to $75.
These dimes are out there but darn hard to find.
Too many have been grabbed when word got out, years ago, that Barbers were NOT easy to find in nice grades.

Not all dimes shows the same wear pattern, so grading by the LIBERTY alone is wrong IMO.
For a dime to be XF I'd expect more detail on the reverse, both on the wreath and on the corn kernels + a complete band under the liberty on the obverse.

I was going to counter your argument, supdog, but I back off.
shadowtrooper78 got his money's worth, and then some.
He need not worry a bit.

Do you disagree?
