Hi. I know you guys are sick of seeing them, but I had never heard of them before I saw it on this site, and I've wondered for the few years that I've had this, what the heck happened to it? Just to make sure, can you guys let me know? It's thin, and the edge is kind of rounded, not as flat as a normal nickel. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Yeah, I think it's extreme wear as opposed to a die adjustment strike.

Post-strike damage, possibly dryer-inflicted.

It really doesn't look like a Dryer Coin. Here's an extreme one.

Dryer coins, Dryer Coins, Dryer Coins. Has anyone ever found one in a washer ? I have, many. Your odds are even better at getting richer finding coins in a washer than a dryer. If they do not fall out of the pockets in the wash cycle then not many will even make it to the dryer. Time to start a Washer coin post. Just for kicks, how many have actually found a coin in a dryer ? I have found only two dimes in my life in any dryer.

You're right, numismo, if I saw those pics first, I never would've thought Dryer Coin. I was thinking maybe rock tumbler, because it feels so smooth, and it's not that old. From what I can see of the date, (which is not much) it's either an 89, or 99. Actually, I wonder what a rock tumbled coin WOULD look like? Oh, and Indian1, I think it's like some ancient proverb, "All the good stuff comes out in the wash, Grasshopper"(or something like that )All I ever found in the dryer was lint! Well, thanks for your input everyone! It's back to hunting I go!

I have never washed my clothes in a coin operated laundry in my life. When I first heard the term, I had problems figuring out what the term ' Dryer Coin' meant. Now, I just use the term for all coins with similar damage.

I was confused too, Sel. When my money went through the laundry, it just came out cleaner, nothing like this! so I was wondering what they were talking about, too.
