50 State Quarters In Mint Cello - Coin Community Forum

clearsig New Member United States 24 Posts	Posted 02/26/2013 10:21 am Many of the State Quarters I've acquired in mint sets are nearly flawless, high grade coins. I'm considering removing them from the mint packaging, photographing them, and housing them in Airtite capsules. Is there any compelling reason why I shouldn't do this? Is there any definite way of distinguishing mint set coins from regular circulation strikes? Report this Post to the Staff

paparet Valued Member United States 253 Posts	Posted 02/26/2013 11:38 am I believe all the coins in US Mint Uncirculated Coins sets from 2005-2010 were suppose to have a special satin finished instead of the regular business strike finish. You should be able to see the difference by placing them side by side. Report this Post to the Staff

The quality of the mint set coins is obviously much better on the whole, but that is not a way to tell them apart. As for putting them in airtites, if they are just quarters cut out of mint sets, go for it. If they are still in the complete set, you may want to consider leaving the set whole.
