Hello all, I was forced to join this forum - as members on RFD pointed me in this direction. I've been a member of RFD since 2004 , and ebay power seller for a long time.. I'm going to try to answer all the questions I can.

Under the Buyer Requirements section you can check the first box to block anyone who doesn't have PayPal, other than that unless they have -1 feedback, unpaid item claims or policy violations there is little that can be done to prevent non-serious bidders.

I have done that exactly - I just wish they had the old option of not accepting bids from 0 feedback but I guess we all started at 0. All I can do is now is contact 0 feedback buyers and make sure that they are serious.

There is quite a bit of moral quibbling going on here.Perhaps these free market bidders don't like glow in the dark dino's and gold plated panda's. Who are we to say where their values are best served.
It's a modern rare item to which anyone with the cash should be entitled to, regardless of criticism.

Who are we to say where value is in numismatics? I would think collectors are the most important opinion.
If it transacts, and actually rises in auction in the future, I'm sure a lot of opinion will drift to talk of why oh why didn't I grab it when I had a chance (people want what they can't have).
In the end, it is the holder not the coins that is rare. So, I wonder if the coins could be extracted without any damage to the holder, would it have value then?

The value comes from the provenance placed on this set of coins from the serialization of being 20,000 out of 20,000. The wrapper on its own would have minimal value (unless you were going to use it fraudulently) and the coins on there own would have the same value as any other 2012 penny. The question is whether or not this serial number really means anything. These are being marketed as the final pennies to be distributed, which is entirely different than being certified as being the final coins struck. In reality, this roll is not the final roll to be distributed either. Many people have not had their rolls shipped yet. This roll was distributed by the RCM prior to those rolls still sitting there. The pennies in this roll are therefore neither the final 50 pennies to be stuck nor are they the final 50 pennies to be distributed, so other than having the appearance of being a "final roll", the serial number makes this roll no more special than any other.

That's the thing, we know the roll can't apply proper provenance to the coins. If people believes it does, then what would cracking the roll and a getting a TPG to put #1,000,000 or "Last Distributed Penny" on the certificate mean to the value of that coin? They wouldn't do it, of course, since that would be manufacturing provenance. It will be interesting to see whether this shakes a pile of COA #1 out of the trees. And, ultimately, whether it leads to serialized holograms on all NCLT capsules.

canuck1us, is exactly right. there is only 50 regular 2012 pennies in this roll. nothing more or special except for a wrapper. but I give the owner credit for putting it on a venue to get an amazing price for it. the owner whom I guess is a collector too must be surprised at the price attained. its going to sell for more than a ms60 1948 dollar, goodluck
